PM Modi to release cheetah in Kuno National Park
PM Modi is going to release 8 wild cheetahs in Kuno National Park tomorrow. The purpose of this release of cheetahs is to reintroduce them and bring more diversity to the wildlife of India. The cheetah was declared extinct in India in 1952. An agreement was signed with Namibia earlier this year to bring cheetahs back to India. In India it will be known as Project Cheetah. This transfer of cheetahs is the first inter-continental project in itself.

The forest ecosystem will improve with the arrival of cheetahs

This will help conserve biodiversity and enhance ecosystem services such as water security, carbon sequestration and soil moisture conservation, benefiting the society at large. In line with the Prime Minister's commitment towards environmental protection and wildlife conservation, this effort will increase livelihood opportunities for the local community through environmental development and eco-tourism activities.
