International Day for Ozone : It is celebrated to protect and preserve the layer. It's existance helps living being to service from U.V. rays.

Highlights,

Reasons to celebrate ozone layer day.

Various methods and precautions to protect and preserve ozone layers.

How ozon layer get destroyed, main causative factors.

What is the theme of Ozone Day 2022?

The theme announced by the UN Environment Programme for International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer 2022 is 'Global Cooperation Protecting Life on Earth' September 16th marks the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer.

Why do we celebrate World Ozone Day?

On 19 December 1994, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 16 September to be the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, commemorating the date when the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer was signed in 1987. The day was first celebrated on September 16, 1995.

What is known as Ozone Day?

In 1994, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 16 September the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, commemorating the date of the signing, in 1987, of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (resolution 49/114).

Who discovered the ozone layer?

The Ozone Layer was discovered by the French physicists Charles Fabry and Henri Buisson in 1913. Why is Ozone Layer important? Ozone protects the Earth from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays from the Sun.

How can we protect the ozone layer?

1.Avoid the consumption of gases dangerous to the ozone layer, due to their content or manufacturing process. Some of the most dangerous gases are CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons), halogenated hydrocarbon, methyl bromide and nitrous oxide.

2.Minimize the use of cars. The best transport option is urban, bicycle, or walking. If you use a car to a destination, try to carpool with others to decrease the use of cars in order to pollute less and save.

3.Do not use cleaning products that are harmful to the environment and to us. Many cleaning products contain solvents and corrosive substances, but you can replace these dangerous substances with non-toxic products such as vinegar or bicarbonate.

4.Buy local products. In this way, you not only get fresh products but you avoid consuming food that has traveled long distances. As the more distance traveled, the more nitrous oxide is produced due to the medium used to transport that product.

5.Maintain air conditioners, as their malfunctions cause CFCs to escape into the atmosphere.

What causes ozone?

Ozone is formed in the atmosphere through chemical reactions between pollutants emitted from vehicles, factories and other industrial sources, fossil fuels, combustion, consumer products, evaporation of paints, and many other sources.

What causes bad ozone?

Ground-level ozone comes from pollution emitted from cars, power plants, industrial boilers, refineries, and chemical plants. Ozone pollution can even come from paints, cleaners, solvents, and motorized lawn equipment.

What can damage the ozone layer?

The main substances include chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), halons, carbon tetrachloride, methyl chloroform and methyl bromide. The damage to the ozone layer caused by each of these substances is expressed as their ozone depletion potential (ODP).

Can you smell ozone?

Ozone has a distinctive smell that humans can detect even in small concentrations - as few as 10 parts per billion. Here are some of the ways the smell of ozone is described: Metallic. Like a burning wire.

What is the color of ozone?

           pale blue

It is a pale blue gas and consists of three oxygen atoms. Formed in the ozone layer of the stratosphere, it is harmful to life. Ozone, O3, is an allotrope of oxygen. Ozone has pungent an odor, and its color is blue- black in its solid and liquid form.

Is ozone harmful to humans?

Whether in its pure form or mixed with other chemicals, ozone can be harmful to health. When inhaled, ozone can damage the lungs. Relatively low amounts of ozone can cause chest pain, coughing, shortness of breath and, throat irritation.

What does ozone smell like?

Ozone has a very characteristic pungent odor, sometimes described as chlorine bleach, and it can sometimes be detected after lightning strikes or during electrical discharges. Individual humans vary in their ability to smell ozone; some people can smell it at levels as low as 0.05 ppm.

Do humans produce ozone?

Researchers have found evidence that our bodies produce ozone gas -- a component of smog -- that acts like internal pollution and contributes to hardening of the arteries. In the upper atmosphere, ozone makes life possible by shielding the Earth from the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays.

Is ozone good or bad?

Stratospheric ozone is "good" because it protects living things from ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Ground-level ozone, the topic of this website, is "bad" because it can trigger a variety of health problems, particularly for children, the elderly, and people of all ages who have lung diseases such as asthma.

Where is the ozone hole?

           Antarctica

What we call the ozone hole is a thinning of the protective ozone layer in the stratosphere (the upper layer of Earth's atmosphere) above Antarctica that begins every September. Chlorine and bromine derived from human-produced compounds are released from reactions on high-altitude polar clouds.

Where is ozone layer located?

           The stratosphere

The Earth's ozone layer. The ozone layer lies approximately 15-40 kilometers (10-25 miles) above the Earth's surface, in the stratosphere.

Can humans survive without the ozone layer?

Life couldn't exist without this protective ozone, which is also called the “ozone layer.” The sun gives off light, heat, and other types of radiation. Too much UV (ultraviolet) radiation can cause skin cancer, cataracts, and harm plants and animals.

Is ozone a oxygen?

Ozone (O3) is a gas molecule composed of three oxygen atoms. Often called "smog," ozone is harmful to breathe.

What is ozone water?

Ozonated water refers to water that has been treated with ozone gas. Its proponents claim that it offers benefits in both clinical and industrial spaces, from preventing cancer and fighting free radicals in the body to supporting dental health and preserving food safety.

What is the current ozone level?

2022 Ozone Days Calendar - Current Design Value is: 77 ppb.

How many ozone layers exist?

Ozone is found in two different layers in Earth's atmosphere. "Bad" ozone is found in the troposphere, the layer nearest the ground. Tropospheric ozone is a harmful pollutant which forms when sunlight alters various chemicals emitted by humans.

Where was the first ozone hole discovered?

The discovery of the Antarctic ozone hole was first announced in a paper by the British Antarctic Survey's Joe Farmer, Brian Gardiner and Jonathan Shanklin, which appeared in the journal Nature in May 1985.

Is ozone water a sanitizer?

Ozone effectively inactivates microorganisms and removes organic stuff in water. Its strong sanitizing activity is also exploited in the food industry (2,3).

How big is the ozone hole?

According to the joint release, satellite-based measurements revealed that the ozone hole—the total area with ozone column amounts below 220 Dobson units—reached its peak extent on October 7, spanning an area 9.6 million square miles (24.8 million square kilometers), which is roughly the size of North America.
